There are a number of options for Bioidentical Hormone Therapy. From topical creams and gels, to injections and capsules, choosing the right method for you is important. One of the methods that we have found to offer the most consistent clinical results is Pellet therapy.
What are Pellet Implants?
Hormone pellets are surgically implanted under the skin, or subcutaneously, near the hip or on the buttocks. The procedure is quick, painless, and takes place in our office. The pellets then work by emitting a steady, low level of hormones over a period of several months.
This dosage form is very physiologic, because it most closely mimics how your body releases hormones.
Are There Any Restrictions After Pellets are Implanted?
You can return to work or daily activities as soon as you leave our office. However, because this is a small surgical procedure and we want to ensure that you heal properly, there are a few restrictions in the first days.
- You should not submerge the site of the pellet implants for at least 72 hours. This gives the small incision time to heal. Showering is fine, but stay away from bathtubs, hot tubs, swimming pools, rivers, lakes, swamps… you get the idea.
- Because we insert the pellets in your hip or buttocks, we want that area to be protected for the first 72 hours. Moderate exercise is fine, but stay away from exercises that engage the glutes. Squats, dead lifts, lunges, bicycling, horseback riding, and yes, aggressive skiing. The moguls can wait a few days.
Benefits of Pellet Therapy
There are a few more instructions we will give you, but other than that, pellet therapy is a very simple, very safe, and extremely effective therapeutic option!
